Style, naturally....

Wowzers, I can't believe I took a 12 day blogging hiatus without even intending to; so unlike me! (cue loud guffaw!)

Basically, I took a week off work to sort out our lovely new house; painting everything brilliant white, building endless flatpack, hemming tableclothes and taking up curtains (it's an exciting life isn't it?) and during all this activity BT were supposed to connect my internet. Only they didn't; Damn you BT! Damn you to the burning fires! This means that I am internet free until February 25th. Who would've thought just a few years ago that being without internet for a couple of weeks would feel like having your arms cut off?? However, despite the lack of internet at home, I am going to try to persevere and blog everyday. I love it!

Also this week, amist the homebuilding activity (photos to follow when i'm happy with everything, honest!) I received an invitation. Telling you about this will form the basis of this post....is the suspense building yet?!

Well if it hasn't, tough, because i'm going to tell you anyway! On Friday 20th February (this Friday in fact) Myself and my sister Amie, whom as always is designated guest, are going to the launch of Summer Rayne Oakes book Style, Naturally. And suddenly the post title made sense!

As well as a book launch, the event is a fashion show as it will encorporate prophetik designs A/W 09 runway show. Prophetik are a sustainable fashion company, and most of there designs are in fairtrade cotton; they seem nicely made, and there message is admirable, but the designs themselves are very mainstream for my personal tastes (although I do like that Chanel style cardigan!):
Still; I'm soo excited!
.
I haven't read the book, so I have no idea how good it is, and I would never lie to you about these things dear reader! However, as it launched in New York last week (the launch party was held at the Stella MacCartney boutique!) if you have read it, let me know what you thought! And if you're based in London and you'd like to read it, see below:
Oh and as an aside, Summer Rayne has a really good website and blog if your interested in sustainable fashion. Which I am, provided it still looks good: looking good is king! But if you can look good and not add to global warming or rely on child labour then all the better.

Oh and another aside (the final one, I promise!) is it just me or is Summer Rayne too good to be true?? She's stunningly gorgeous, and a model and she does charity work, and promotes sustainablity. So she's beautiful and a good and selfless person!? If I wasn't invited to her party I might jealously hate her a little bit....

Love Tor

PS - What the hell does one wear to a book launch party!??

Tag, you're it!

Today is rather a lazy post i'm afraid: The lovely Kate of Make do Style tagged me to reveal the fourth picture in the fourth folder of my computer. As I am blogging on my work PC (in my own time though! Honest!) gorgeous pictures are a little thin on the ground here, and my fourth folder is actually a stack of pictures of civil engineering projects for work. The fourth picture is this one of the 3 gorges dam:

In case you're interested, The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric river dam that spans the Yangtze River in Sandouping, Yichang, Hubei, China. According to the Chinese Government, the dam will provide electricity for its booming economy and help control flooding on the Yangtze River. When completed, the Three Gorges Dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. Isn't the stuff I write for my job great!?

However that doesn't leave me feeling at all satisfied. My daily fashion fix is yet to be sated. So instead I shall show you the fourth picture in my "personal" folder:

Meet Karl LagerFELT: a serious fashion icon in felt form. Which is how i've decided all fashion icons should now be displayed; I demand it! I stole him from Danny Daily's blog and hid him away in my personal folder because I loved him and because I thought it might be a fun thing to copy in my quest for perfect DIY. Speaking of which, i'm sure you'll all be disapointed to know that i'm yet to make anything sucessful on my sewing machine. But I really am working on it!

.With fingers crossed (and because I have the week off work next week) I promise that there will be some DIY to show and tell by next weekend.

.
I hearby tag (because if you don't pass these things on you're damned forever, or so i'm told):

.
Go forth, raid the folders of your computer, and share with us all!

Lots of love,

Tor x

The rise of the chunky monkeys!

Whilst not exactly slim, I think I have an OK body; i'm all in proportion, I wear my clothes well, and I leave the house feeling (just about) happy every morning. I certainly never have any problems finding clothes to fit; Although high street stores, if you're listening a little bit more accomodation for a larger bust would be nice.

Boots however, are a different matter. See, I have disproportionately large arms and legs. My mum kindly refers to my legs as the chunky monkeys in fact. And whilst I can buy short boots from just about any where, hence my love of the shorter boot, knee high boots are much more of a problem. So there's only one store I look to when I need new knee highs, and although it used to embarrass me to admit it, it embarrasses me no more; I buy my boots from Evans.

Yup, Evans of plus size fame. And yesterday, with the wet feet I invariably get when it snows, I decided to pop in and invest in a new pair (they usually cost about £100, which is why I only buy a new pair when the old ones die; apparently having fat legs is expensive!) But not today! For Evans have a sale on, and the last laugh is on the skinny minnies for once; because this season their boot selection is amazing!! So amazing that I got two pairs!! (Well actually I got one pair and the bf got me the other because, and I quote, "It will stop me whinging about not having any nice knee high boots")

Here they are:

The top pair were £20 and the bottom pair were £30, both reduced from £70 and £75 (If I remember correctly) and both so so comfy; they really do fit like a dream! The tan ones also came in black (reduced to £40)

And here is how i'm wearing the black ones today:

Primark dress £15, Warren James necklace £20, Evans boots £30. I'm not sure how much I like the dress now i've seen it photographed, but the boots more than make up for it!

And there were so many other lovely pairs; all their boots were heavily discounted. However (tip of the day coming up!) go into the store if you fancy a pair, dont buy them online! Lots of the boots aren;t discounted or arent discounted as much on the website; I have no idea why!

.

So if you've got chunky monkey legs like me, or just like to wear your boots loose and slouchy (how I envy girls who can wear their boots loose and slouchy!) then my advice is to get down to Evans quick, whilst the sale is still on!

Lots of love,

Tor x

PS - I know the shows are on and I should be writing about them, but I was just too excited about my boots not to show you all! Maybe i'll think about looking at some "real" fashion tomorrow!
