Maybe i'm an Armani girl!

Hi guys,
I've just seen pictures from the Emporio Armani A/W11 show, and my first thought was, maybe i'm an Armani girl. For it was a complete black out: black as far as the eye could see (with ocassional flashes of a crisp arctic white) The collection really could have been designed with my personal taste in mind:

Here's the inspiration: "In the style of a film noir, beauty is concealed behind a pair of dark glasses and under a hat tilted over the forehead to suggest a hidden mystery. This enigma is heightened by the perception of a life without frontiers, according to a plot that follows an aesthetic journey between different worlds. A precisely defined vision, treated ironically to give an effortless and contemporary image. A stylish take on international espionage, travelling through time and distance, referencing the beat of great nightclubs and the silence of famous hotels."

I loved the layers of black and the mix of the fabrics: the sharp fitting trousers teamed with the knitted scarf/cape and the shiny patent boots was a particular favourite, and an outfit i'm bound to take inspiration from next winter. My favourite piece from the collection was the raw edged sleeveless dress: it looked amazing against the models pale skin and with her vibrant flash of red hair.

I know it's more classic than fashion forward, but I really love this collection: it's the first one i've seen for ages where I could integrate every single piece into my wardrobe right now and wear it to death. Maybe, deep down, what I really want is to be a film noir spy!

Emporio Armani Press Day: Accessories Lust

This morning I popped down to the Emporio Armani press day, for a closer look at their Spring/Summer collections. Layering seemed to be a key trend from Armani this season, and sports-luxe pieces in grey or mesh were teamed with almost everything. There were lots of gorgeous pieces fused with buttersoft leather, and printed leather jackets (which I loved) whilst the bold accent colour was definitely fucshia.

The stand out pieces for me though were the accessories, hence all the pictures: i'm a self-confessed accessories junky, and this collection seemed to focus on my three favourite things - necklaces, belts, and shoes. My favourite piece was the oversized blue flower and cord necklace (in the bottom picture) which was chunky and bold but feminine at the same time. I also loved the polka dot shoes and the boxy square bags in a variety of colours. The colours of the perspex jewellery were lovely, although it did feel like i've seen them a million times before. I loved the return of gingham, and will be trawling charity shops across the city for a boxy black and white bag, like the one shown in the third picture.

While i'm gushing (not shocking, I know!) a quick mention of the tan and gold across-the-body bag in the top picture: such a versitile piece that would go with almost everything. I think, come spring, i'd like to raid the Armani accessories department, and make everything my own!

Paws and Claws

Hello blogosphere,

Well, they didn't give Kristin Chenoweth an Emmy so my entourage and I stormed out fairly early on in the ceremony. I was disappointed indeed to note the lack of monkey dresses on the Red Carpet. Hollywood needs to catch up quick-smart to my style acumen or risk looking hopelessly passe. Still: 4 good (or at least a little interesting) ones:

Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men")

America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty")

Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)

Laura Dern

You'll notice I'm giving "Mad Men" props to two cast members. This is an example of media bias. To be honest, Christina Hendricks is the only one of all these who gives me chills and it's mostly boob-related. America Ferrera is doing vintage glam of which Wigmore also approves (plus, red lipstick, people. Live it. Love it.)

You'll see also that we've got the lovely Peggy Olsen (or to call her by her earth name - Elisabeth Moss). She's working the red lip and her own special brand of glorious frump. I'm obsessed with Hollywood jolie-laide. It's a real rarity and I love her so much for it. Laura Dern is included cuz a pockets. Love me some gown pouches and on a David Lynch lady to boot.

But p'eh. Still, you don't look at the Emmys and expect Vogue Italia. 48% less nipple for a start. If you want someone who's actually good at this stuff see Red Carpet Fashion Awards. The woman who runs that is some bizarre Yoda of catwalk and she'll analyse and critique beyond your wildest dreams.

Speaking of catwalk and a lack of monkeys, I'm noticing a curious proliferation of anamorphisation. Who'd a thought the Spring/Summer 09 would so zoo-ey?

Ob-servuhe:

BUNNIES!

Moschino Cheap & Chic

BUTTERFLIES!

Armani Prive

HORSIES!

Just Cavalli

CRICKETS!

Armani Prive

RHINOS! DINOS!

Both Christopher Kane

THE GREATER CAMOU'D PAC-MAN!

Giles

This all pleases me no end. It's funny how a horned shoe can make a person immediately lighter of heart. I just hope Prada does something with wombats. My trend spotting spidey-sense is telling me that their moment is nigh...

Look at him. In Milan, everyone travels by ten-year-old girl.

Love,
Becky.
